Turtle Rock Bar & Café
About This Spot
Pulling off the quiet stretch of Capell Valley Road, Turtle Rock Bar & Café emerges almost like a comforting landmark for travelers and locals alike—a casual local eatery with a laid-back vibe that feels both familiar and a little unexpected in these parts. The pace here slows down, punctuated by the soft hum of conversation, the occasional clink of glasses, and the gentle bustle of folks grabbing a bite before heading toward nearby Lake Berryessa.
The atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming, wrapped in a patchwork of well-worn memories evidenced by dollar bills pinned overhead—each one carrying a name or message from someone who stopped by long ago. Step inside and you’ll find yourself among a mix of neighbors, road trippers, and weekend visitors, all drawn by the easy comfort of a neighborhood bar and café that doubles as a convenient pit stop.
Food here is as much about familiarity as it is flavor. The menu offers steadfast classics that feel like a small celebration of simple pleasures—a world-famous egg roll, crispy chicken strips, and sandwiches that pair naturally with a cold Budweiser or a spicy Bloody Mary. The mix of a bar, kitchen, and convenience store creates a unique rhythm: the buzz of people ordering casual fare, the friendly nods exchanged over a beer, and the practical grab of ice or snacks for the road.
Whether you find yourself lingering under the covered outdoor benches or slipping in for a quiet moment at the bar, Turtle Rock holds a subtle charm—rooted less in refinement and more in genuine, lived-in warmth. It’s the kind of place where stories seem to pause for just a moment, anchored by simple food, welcoming faces, and the quiet promise of a good journey still to come.

Turtle Rock is a bar, they have food, and a little convenience store. It is your last stop before heading to Lake Berryessa in Napa County. There is a place to sit outside that is covered and has benches. Inside there is a bar, a kitchen, and convenience store section with snacks, drinks, and ice. The atmosphere is welcoming. There are dollar bills hanging all over the place with people's names or art on them. At the end of the year they take the money down and donate 100% of it to Children's Hospital. Now my favorite thing about Turtle Rock is their egg rolls. They are the best!! I travel an hour just for the egg rolls, I won't even see the lake :-). If you ever have the chance, I suggest you stop for one. You will not regret it.

What a surprise!! Stopped in to grab a bottle of water as we were on the road and discovered this awesome local dive bar, restaurant and small store. Had to make Hubs come in from car and ck it out! Super nice people, we didn’t hang around long but grabbed some egg rolls to go. Beautiful area also.

I was in the area today, so I had to stop for some of the world famous egg rolls at the Turtle Rock Bar & Cafe. I absolutely love these egg rolls. I love this bar and cafe out in the middle of nowhere (it is actually quite close to Lake Berryessa). If you are in the area do yourself a favor and indulge in the good food, great service, and the quirky but quaint atmosphere. It's where the locals go!

I may be out numbered here but the world's famous egg rolls didn't do it for me. Beautiful ride up service could be nicer but wasn't bad. Seemed like they where over it an didn't want any conversations. Did their job as far as drinks just fine. A lil busy but nothing crazy. Sunday afternoon

You have to try the world famous egg rolls! Stopped in just to use the bathroom and ended up staying for lunch! This is a great roadside locals bar and cafe. Staff was great to talk to and you will be surprised by all the dollars stuck to the ceiling! They said every once and a while they remove the money and donate to charity.

Fun place to get a quick bite when your on the road. Super cool how they have all the money stuck to just about every wall and ceiling surface. They have cold drinks and plenty of tables outside to sit at.

We were driving for sometime, not familiar with surrounding to know where are the gas stations or convenient stores and few places we had past were closed (it was after 5pm). So when we saw few cars parked in front of this place, pulled over to buy some drinks for rest of our driving. Staff super friendly and nice, we bought our drinks and decided to get couple of hot dogs as well. Nothing special about the hot dogs but if we're driving there again, won't mind to stop again most likely because friendly people there. Also if you're there, put up couple of your extra dollars on the ceiling or the wall, it's worth it.
